3 Ductless HVAC Noises That Mean Trouble in Ocala, FL
Ductless mini-splits in Ocala, FL, can sometimes make a little noise, particularly when starting up. This is normal and not cause for immediate concern. There are, however, three noises that your ductless HVAC system shouldn’t make. Read on to learn about these noises and what they could potentially mean.
1. Rattling
This often indicates a loose component inside your ductless mini-split. Occasionally, it can also mean that some kind of debris has gotten inside the outdoor unit. In any event, such loose items can damage the internal workings of your ductless mini-split, so having a professional technician come to check it out is always a good idea.
2. Humming or Buzzing
These sounds often indicate that there is an electrical fault which is causing the system to draw too much power, potentially overloading the system. In addition to being dangerous, these faults are tough to find, making them a job for a professional technician.
3. Whistling or Hissing
These sounds usually indicate that there is a refrigerant leak somewhere in the system. Without refrigerant, your ductless mini-split won’t work efficiently, and the lack of pressure in the system could overload the compressor as it struggles to compensate. As with the other two noises, when you hear either whistling or hissing, it’s time to shut off your ductless mini-split immediately and wait for professional assistance.
